When
it was built in the 1880’s, Lake Vyrnwy was the largest
reservoir in Europe. When the existing valves and tapers in the
straining tower needed to be replaced, PMP was appointed to survey
the site prior to installing new butterfly valves.
The survey included the measurement of the existing valves, the
measurement of the pitch circle diameter of the flanges and the
bolt details. We also carried out a full structural survey to find
suitable locations for the lifting gear supports and to check adequacy
of support for the lifting gear.
Divers were employed to carry out surveys on the outside of the
tower. PMP designed, fabricated and installed new access decking,
hand rails and lifting gear to enable the installation of the 2.5
tonne valves. Once the access equipment and cranage had been installed,
PMP installed the new butterfly valves prior to testing and commissioning
them.
