When
a valve and gearbox failed to operate on the Haweswater Aqueduct
we were called in to assess the condition of the valve and gearbox,
remove and refurbish them and reinstall on site.
To maintain water supply during the day, site works were carried
out at night whilst water demand was low. The seized valve and gearbox
were removed and taken to our workshops in Haslingden for inspection
and possible repair.
We carried out an internal inspection of the gearbox using a fibrescope
to check the internal condition and to establish the correct rotation
of the drive screw. The two units were then stripped down, refurbished
and tested prior to being reinstalled on site.
